HMRC have announced that the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) ‘Disadvantaged Areas’ relief scheme will be coming to an end on 6th April 2013. They have said that it does not encourage people to buy properties in disadvantaged areas.
Up until now people buying properties in the designated areas could buy for up to £150,000 without having to pay the tax. After the relief has ended SDLT will need to be paid on properties being purchased at £125,000 and over.
Claims for relief of purchases of residential properties can be made up to 5th May 2014 inclusive
