What made you want to join PLS?
I had spent the last 12-years working my way up through various legal firms but felt that I wasn’t progressing in my old job as much as I would have liked. I knew I wanted to work in law from an early age but although I started my A-levels I found that I really didn’t like the structured classroom environment. It was just something that everybody else did, but I soon realised it wasn’t for me.
I went on to do a level 2 diploma in Legal Administration followed by work in a local solicitors firm as a Legal Secretary. I’ve since worked in various teams both big and small but when a conveyancing assistant vacancy came up at PLS I couldn’t resist applying. It’s a well-known law firm that offers career progression, so I jumped at the chance to come on board, despite the 40-mile commute!
What do you currently do in your day job?
I am now a conveyancer/team manager, responsible for my own caseload and the management of 3 conveyancing assistants. I love that every day is different and in conveyancing you really have to delve into history to find what you need. I love getting the old files down and poring over them, no deed is ever the same.
Of course, there is a lot of client interaction too. For them, I’m helping them to buy their first house or dream house. I get to know customers quite well. Right now I’m part of a very busy department, it’s incredibly fast paced but because every property is different, it needs a vast wealth of knowledge and I’m still learning even after more than a decade in the industry.
We get additional training here at PLS and Hayley who leads the training team is the best trainer I’ve ever come across, she really gets to know your individual style. If you like to be left alone to get on with – like I do, she’s absolutely fine with that and that’s great to know.
What would you like to do in the future?
I certainly wouldn’t mind a senior managerial role in the future. I like a challenge and am driven by taking on more responsibility.
I’m just so grateful that at PLS there are these opportunities to progress as in my past I have been encouraged to get to a certain position and then left to stagnate. That’s not the case at PLS, they’re interested in supporting you.
